Sustainability at Fairmont Austin

Fairmont Austin supports sustainability initiatives through daily operations and ongoing community partnerships. These initiatives have enabled our hotel to eliminate single-use plastic, ban use of overfished species in all restaurants, compost to reduce food waste and more.

Fairmont Austin is pleased to be recognized by Green Key Global as a leader in environmental management and corporate social responsibility. The Green Key Certificate is a leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. Learn more about Green Key

We ask our guests to reuse their towels. Savings from water and energy conservation are then used to fund tree planting. As a result of this initiative, one tree is planted every minute.

In our restaurants, we are committed to:

  • Offering healthy, balanced, and high-quality food: we use local produce where possible
  • Reducing food waste through composting
  • Banning the use of overfished species in our restaurants

We are committed to joining the UN Global Tourism Plastics Initiative to remove all single-use plastic items from the guest experience. This is a major step towards reducing environmental impacts and strengthening efforts to combat plastic pollution. It is a significant step forward for the global hospitality industry.

In addition to eliminating all plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds, the commitment includes:

  • The removal of individual plastic toiletry amenities and cups.
  • The elimination of all remaining single-use plastic items in guest rooms, meeting areas, restaurants, and all leisure activities areas (spas, fitness centers, etc.).

We offer guests electric vehicle charging stations to encourage sustainable transportation options.
